Grimey Rob
Grimey Rob is an ex Free Party DJ turned Sound Designer and Music Producer Always a big music fan, Grimey Rob started DJ'ing at free parties in 1991 while at college in Northampton, UK, studying Art & Deisgn. Back then he played a mash up of Garage, House, Hardcore, Break Beat, Rave and Belgian Techno / New Beat. After the fever pitch of parties like Castle Morton he spent some of the mid 90's in South Wales putting on club events with local artists collective, Jelly and Sound System people, UFO. From 1998 to 2001 he studied Sound Design, Music Technology and Audio Recording while working for New York Art and Graffiti specialist Joe La Placa in his recording studio, mostly on pre production projects for Producer Nelle Hooper and some MTV ad's. Later he worked on and off at Major Talent, a funky little old school studio in central London. While there he recorded some Punk bands and laid tracks for Producer, Tim Simeon (Bomb The Bass) and a lot of drums for Shawn Lee (Planet of the Breaks). Escaping London to a rural location where he could make a lot of noise Rob funded an all new and improved studio by driving 44 ton trucks around the UK. Grimey City was started in 2006 as a label to release all the masses of tracks that had been written over the previous 6 years and all the new music that an improved studio computer made possible. The music being released is the result of many years of designing new sounds from scartch, and trawling for obscure samples from Films, TV News reels, old records, field recordings, Archive material and Avande Garde Music. Samples include: Real Gun Battles in Iraq, first hand accounts and explosions from the Iraq War; The Jones Town Massacre FBI tapes; 911 video footage; George Bush; FLIGHT UNITED 93 Air Traffic control call out messages; Kamize Planes hitting US War ships; a reporter inside The Beslan Massacre school during the battle; the lifts at Goodge street underground station in London; some ex friends blowing up my Hi-Fi on cocaine (fools); background noise from a recording of a company board meeting in Ireland from 1966; first hand accounts from a Farmer who witnessed the Columbia Shuttle falling to earth and the NASA control room call to the disintegrating space ship; Openhiemer talking about the nuclear bomb; Old Skool Hip Hop vocal samples; classic funk breaks; 80's Electro Boogie and Soul Records; Reggea vox and Bass Lines; vocals and sounds from films like THX1198; Westworld; Logun Run; Hammer House of Horror; The Exorcist; Precinct 13; Welcome To Blood City; King Solomons Mines; Total Recall; Robocop; Psychic Killer; Shaft (The Destroyer); The Getaway; Deathrow Gameshow.
