R-ZAC
R-zac is about travel. An ever changing voyage through sound and rhythm: the drums being the hypnotic focus, while the spiralling 3 dimensional textures behind it continuously evolve and shift: a warped representation of the landscape around you
flying past as you approach your journey's end.
The concept was realized by Simon Carter (a.k.a Crystal Distortion), and Sebastian (a.k.a 69db) in mid 1994 while they were both still travelling with the Spiral Tribe Sound System. "It started on a long journey from Amsterdam to Berlin in a Mercedes 508 van called Jenny Jo, while looking out the window, or reading a Moebius graphic novel of the same name" Simon remembers wistfully for us."We ended up walking around in the Love Parade in Berlin with not a lot to do and nowhere to play, so we went back to this basement where we'd stashed our stuff, set up and began to jam. Quite a few people came by and joined in during the next 6 days we were locked down there, hatching and breeding this new found relentless future Tribal Beat and decorating it with powerful swirling sounds, falling deeper into the illusion of being propelled inexorably forward......"
The basis for the idea in place, it was back to the Mercedes 508 accompanied by a double layer of dark sunglasses to combat the natural light that had "become a stranger to us". Next stop, Czech Republic: Hostomice, the first Free Festival of its kind over there. "Ironically, we were able to set up the whole studio under the wing of a Russian MIG 21 fighter plane on a trailer, and this is where R-zac sealed its fate within us and took us on its journey with it across the planet.
Our first really free flowing live performances started there, and it got better and better every week....."
In a career that took the duo from Czech to Austria, then back to Berlin, and across to Milwaukee and Chicago with Drop Bass Network in the USA, the pair finally decided to embark on solo quests when they took each other's leave and headed for Italy and Paris respectively. Now nearly 11 years, and a lot of progress later, Seb and Simon have found themselves able to catch hold of R-zac's tail yet again and deliver more of the same, but with the freshest, cutting edge, up to date sounds you've ever heard in your life!!!!
So, stop reading this, hear the first Cd to get and idea of then, and try the second one to totally identify with what happening .
